Off-Campus Study Course Approval History Database

All Reed community members can browse through the Off-Campus Study Course Approval History Database to search for overseas classes that have already been previously submitted by another Reed student and approved. Course Approvals that appear in the database do not need to be resubmitted for approval, unless you are hoping to have the course assessed towards a different major/minor/requirement than the one noted.

The information listed in this database does not guarantee that a class will be offered abroad during a specific semester, and it is not a list of all available classes in a program. In addition to using the Off-Campus Study Course Approval History Database, it is also recommended that you visit the specific catalogs for programs of interest to have an idea of the additional courses that may be available to you.

OCS Course Approval Form

For students, if a course you want to take does not appear in the Off-Campus Study Course Approval History Database, then use the to submit overseas courses in advance of your program and for each course to be evaluated for transfer to Reed.

Once you submit your courses for review, the Registrar’s Office will work with the appropriate Reed departments to assess your courses. Please note, students do not need to contact departments.

Approvals may take 2-3 weeks. Once your courses are assessed, you and your academic adviser will receive an email from transfercredit@reed.edu with a chart that explains how all of your submitted courses will transfer and be applied to your Reed academic journey.

Below is some helpful guidance when completing the :

  • It is recommended that you submit 1-2 course alternatives so that you have a back-up if one of the initial courses you intended to take is full.
  • If you need to change your course selections once on-site, you must submit the for the new course(s).
  • IMPORTANT: Failure to submit a form for each OCS course may prevent a course from transferring or counting toward requirements.

Reed Off-Campus Study Policies

Credit systems vary around the world, and the number of credits assigned to a course taken via an off-campus study (OCS) program will be converted to the equivalent number of Reed units, in accordance with the college’s established standards.

For this reason, it is important to submit the in advance of your program and for each course to be evaluated for transfer to Reed. The registrar’s office will evaluate courses for transferability, credit conversion, and application toward group and division requirements. If you want the course to apply toward major or minor requirements, indicate that on the form and the registrar’s office will seek evaluation/approval from the appropriate department/committee on your behalf. The registrar’s office will notify you of how the course has been articulated to transfer to Reed. If you need to change your course selections once on-site, you must submit the for the new course(s). IMPORTANT: Failure to submit a form for each OCS course may prevent a course from transferring or counting toward requirements.

The course catalogs of Reed-approved programs can be found on the off-campus program pages.

All work reported by the host institution will be recorded on the Reed transcript, but the grades will not be included in the ºÚÁϳԹÏÍø grade point average. Generally, credit will not be granted in excess of the credit granted for similar courses at Reed. Students will not receive credit for courses that duplicate courses already completed. For more information, view section IV.M.5. of the faculty code.
